Rivers Assault: 3 Suspects Arrested for Attacking CDC Chair

Published 14 hours ago2 minute read

The Rivers State Police Command said its operatives have arrested three suspects who allegedly attacked the Community Development Committee Chairman of Okana in Abua Central in Abua/Odual Local Government Area.

The police said the arrest of the trio followed a complaint by the victim, identified as Christian Benjamin Ediegene, who reported the matter at one of their stations in the area.

The CDC chairman, in a voice note to newsmen, said he met the suspects mounting pillars on his farmland, saying when he inquired what they were doing, they attacked him with machetes which caused him several bodily injuries.

He said, “At about 7 am, on June 29, 2025, I was going to my farm, when a group of boys ambushed me, macheted me on my head, shoulder and on the hand.

“After they left, I had to force myself to the main road because where it happened is very close to the road. My community people came and took me to the Police Station in Abua Central (Rivers community). For now, I am demanding justice. I heard the police have arrested some of them. I was unconscious but now, I am recovering at least I can talk a little.”

Speaking further, Ediegene said he had yet to ascertain the reason the youths attacked him.

When contacted, spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for a discreet probe.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, gave the names of the suspects as Young Ezekiel, Isiah a.k.a Olito and Onyekachi Paull, saying operatives were on the trail of the others who fled.

She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. Three of them have been arrested and the matter has been transferred to the State CID. The CDC chairman said they unlawfully assaulted him by giving him machete cuts on his head, back and hand, which caused him harm.”
