Rey Skywalker's upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled , can finally resolve a Rey problem that plagued her throughout all three movies of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Based on Star Wars' upcoming movies and even the direction upcoming Star Wars TV shows seem to be taking, it's safe to assume Star Wars is not retconning the sequels, despite some in the fanbase continuing to call for that. Instead, it seems most likely Rey will only become more important in the franchise.
Among the projects that cement that is New Jedi Order, the title of which itself implies that Rey is going to be establishing her own Jedi Order in a brand-new era of the Star Wars timeline. Particularly given this movie is said to be set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, this would make plenty of sense. In addition to this major update to Rey's Star Wars story,.
Beginning with A New Hope, . In A New Hope, this was the fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, but Star Wars has since added battles like Anakin/Vader and Obi-Wan's duel on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and the Duel of the Fates in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Even in Star Wars TV shows, this trend has continued.
Among the most notable are Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader's duel in the final episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even epic scenes like the Bad Batch's escape in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 ending. In fact, some of the best final fights in Star Wars have taken place more recently in the shows. The sequel trilogy was largely an anomaly in this larger Star Wars tradition, though, and that had a particular impact on Rey.

Although Star Wars movies and TV shows have long incorporated these epic lightsaber duels and final fight sequences, . Specifically, the sequel trilogy's main Jedi, Rey, really didn't get the same final fight that her predecessors did. Yes, Rey had final fight scenes, such as with Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, but, in both cases, they deviated from the formula in ways that made these battles less enthralling than most others in the franchise have been.
The sequel trilogy's main Jedi, Rey, really didn't get the same final fight that her predecessors did.
In Rey's face-off with Kylo Ren, for example, she was brand-new to using the Force and wielding a lightsaber, which made the battle a bit less affecting than others, such as Luke's battle with Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, have been. There's also the fact that, especially towards the end of that fight, Kylo was trying to recruit rather than kill her. Likewise, when Rey was finally at her full power and potential (so far) and faced off against Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, it was far from a traditional lightsaber duel.

Luckily, . Many are hoping that New Jedi Order doesn't follow the Jedi versus the Sith pattern we've seen so often in Star Wars but rather brings on a new type of villain, which I happen to agree with, which would mean a final fight likely not with lightsabers (or, at least, not with a lightsaber duel). However, Star Wars shows have more than proven that these final fights can be brilliant, be they with lightsabers or not.

Rey's Star Wars return is happening in Star Wars: New Jedi Order. Here's what is known about the story, cast, and release of Daisy Ridley's film.
I genuinely hope that New Jedi Order makes this choice, especially because, however fair or unfair it may be, the quality of the lightsaber duels was one of the biggest criticisms of the sequel trilogy. Especially with Rey presumably now a full-fledged Jedi Master, it would make sense for her first true final fight to take place in this upcoming movie. Hopefully, will finally resolve this years-long Rey Skywalker problem.
