Review of 'Final Destination: Bloodlines'

Final Destination Bloodlines, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, aims to revive the horror franchise, focusing on Death as the main villain. The film stars Tony Todd, Brec Bassinger, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, and others.
The movie succeeds in delivering iconic and amazing kill sequences, with a standout opening that ranks among the best in the series. However, most characters are underdeveloped, serving primarily as victims in Death's elaborate schemes. This is a recurring theme in the franchise, where characters are often secondary to the inventive death scenarios.
While the screenplay may lack depth, it introduces an intriguing premise: Death's rampage is portrayed as a family curse that must be stopped. This setup leads to plot twists that maintain interest throughout the film. The script effectively balances mystery and exposition, providing necessary context without feeling forced.
The performances are solid, despite the absence of major stars, besides Tony Todd’s final appearance. Kaitlyn Santa Juana performs adequately as the leading lady, while Richard Harmon (known from The 100) and Brec Bassinger make notable impressions. The rest of the cast also deliver competent performances.
Lipovsky and Stein attempt to emulate James Wan's directorial style from the original Final Destination, focusing on tension and visual language established in previous films. The opening sequence is a highlight, creating anticipation and manipulating the audience with fun and terrifying sequences. Although visual effects are not always polished, they generally do not detract from the viewing experience.
Final Destination Bloodlines delivers the expected thrills, laughs, and uncomfortable moments, making it a worthwhile addition to the franchise. The film is particularly enjoyable in theaters, especially with an engaged audience.
Final Destination Bloodlines was released on May 15th, 2025.
