Renowned PR Icon Dangogo Dies at 76

Mallam Kabir Dangogo, a distinguished figure in public relations and former Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), has passed away at the age of 76. His death, which occurred on March 6, 2025, was confirmed by his son, Sadiq Kabir Dangogo. The late Mallam Dangogo was laid to rest in Kaduna following a funeral prayer at the Sultan Bello Mosque after Jumu’at prayer.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mallam Dangogo had a remarkable career spanning journalism and public relations. He contributed his expertise to the New Nigerian Newspaper and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) before transitioning to public relations roles at Bank of the North Limited and Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, where he retired in 2005 as an Assistant General Manager and head of the Corporate Affairs Department.
Mallam Dangogo's influence extended beyond his corporate roles. He was a pioneer as the founding president of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB), now known as the Association of Corporate Communications and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB). Furthermore, he served as the Secretary-General of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA) from 2002 to 2006. His tenure at FAPRA significantly elevated Nigeria's standing within international public relations circles.
Tributes have poured in, recognizing Mallam Dangogo's significant impact on the field. PR expert and author, Yushau A. Shuaib, described him as an institution in the profession, emphasizing his monumental contributions and enduring legacy. Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, Past President of APRA, acknowledged Dangogo's pivotal role in laying the foundation for APRA's current structure, highlighting his diligence and meticulous approach to procedure.
Mallam Dangogo's career encompassed diverse roles, including editor, lecturer, public relations manager, author, publisher, advertising agent, and corporate and reputation management advisor. He is survived by his wife, three children, and extended family. His passing marks a significant loss to the public relations community in Nigeria and Africa, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication.
