Red Velvet has five members. They originally debuted on August 1, 2014, with the single Happiness. The original Red Velvet members were Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. A fifth member, Yeri, joined in March 2015. Here is everything to know about Red Velvet members.

Irene is a South Korean singer, TV host and actress. She started her career in 2009 when she joined SM Entertainment through an audition. She trained for five years before debuting as a member of Red Velvet in 2014. Apart from her group activities, Irene has ventured into acting and hosting.
She made her acting debut in July 2016 with the lead role in the web drama Women at a Game Company, and also began making appearances in variety shows and hosting. In July 2020, she debuted alongside Seulgi in the group's first sub-unit, IRENE & SEULGI, with the mini-album Monster.
She debuted as a solo artist in November 2024 with the single album Like a Flower. Who is the Red Velvet leader? Irene serves as the leader of Red Velvet. Known for her striking visuals, she's often seen as the leader and face of the group, balancing the personalities and energies of the other members.

Seulgi is a South Korean singer, dancer and member of Red Velvet. She graduated from Seoul Performing Arts High School. She made her debut in August 2014 as the group's main dancer and lead vocalist with the single Happiness.
Before debuting, Seulgi was part of SM Entertainment's pre-debut group SM Rookies and also appeared in the MVs for Henry's Butterfly and Fantastic. In July 2017, she participated in the TV show Idol Drama Operation Team and later joined the project group Girls' Next Door alongside six other female singers.
They released a song called Deep Blue Eyes and starred in their show Let's Only Walk The Flower Road. In July 2020, she teamed up with Irene to form the first sub-group of their band, named IRENE & SEULGI. They released a small album called Monster.
In December 2021, Seulgi was part of the Girls On Top project and released the single Step Back in January 2022. SM ended the project following Kakao's acquisition of part of the company. The music artist made her solo debut in October 2022 with the mini-album 28 Reasons.
Wendy is a South Korean singer and dancer who is part of the group Red Velvet. Born in South Korea, she moved to Canada at a young age, lived in the United States for a few years, and then returned to Canada, where she graduated from Richmond Hill High School.
In December 2019, she took a break from her career after falling from the stage during a rehearsal for SBS's Gayo Daejeon, which resulted in a broken wrist, fractured pelvis, and facial injuries. After taking a year to recover, she launched her solo career in April 2021 with the mini-album Like Water.
In 2021, Wendy was part of the Got The Beat group, a project by SM's Girls' Generation, and they released the digital song Step Back in January 2022. Despite her contract with SM Entertainment ending on April 4, 2025, SM announced that she would continue her group activities with Red Velvet.
Later in the same month, on April 25, 2025, ASND, an entertainment agency, announced that Wendy had joined their team.

Joy is a South Korean singer, dancer, actress and member of Red Velvet. She graduated from Seoul Performing Arts High School. She made her debut in August 2014 as the group's lead rapper and sub-vocalist with the single Happiness. Besides her music career, Joy is also an actress.
She made her acting debut in March 2017 with the lead role in the drama The Liar and His Lover, and also began making appearances in variety shows and hosting. She debuted as a solo artist in May 2021 with the special album Hello.

Yeri is a South Korean singer, dancer and member of Red Velvet. She graduated from Hanlim Arts High School. She made her debut in March 2015, joining the group as its new sub-vocalist, sub-rapper, and maknae with the EP Ice Cream Cake.
The original four members of Red Velvet had debuted seven months prior, but SM decided that adding a fifth member would be the best option, and that's when Yeri was signed with SM. Yeri also appeared in the music videos for Henry's 1-4-3 and SHINee's Why So Serious.
On April 4, 2025, SM Entertainment announced that Yeri's exclusive contract with the agency had expired; however, she would continue to work with the agency for her group activities as a member of Red Velvet. On May 1, 2025, she signed an exclusive contract with Blitzway Entertainment.
Wendy and Yeri have left SM Entertainment, but they remain active members of Red Velvet, according to Money Control. Their contracts with the agency expired, and they decided not to renew, but they will continue to participate in Red Velvet's group activities.
Wendy joined the ASND agency on April 25, 2025, while Yeri signed a contract with Blitzway Entertainment on April 4, 2025.
As of June 2025, the Red Velvet members are five, as none of the members have left the group.
