DAVANAGERE: Police apprehended nine accused individuals who allegedly subjected a minor boy, 17, to severe abuse, including forcibly removing his clothes, assaulting him, and placing red ants in his undergarments. The incident occurred on April 4 at Astapanahalli village in Channagiri.
According to reports, the victim's uncle and relatives assaulted him over allegations of theft and inappropriate behaviour towards women.
The perpetrators allegedly subjected the victim to brutal treatment, tying him to an areca tree and inflicting torture. They proceeded to place red ants in his undergarments and on his body.
The footage of this incident was circulated on social media platforms, triggering widespread condemnation from the public.
Channagiri police
initiated legal proceedings. The victim's grandfather lodged a formal complaint against the assailants. Subsequently, authorities registered a case against Subhash, 23, Lucky, 21, Darshan, 22, Parashu, 25, Shivadarshan, 23, Harish, 25, Patti Raju, 20, Bhooni, 18, and Sudhan alias Madhusudhan, 30.
All nine suspects are now in custody and police have launched an investigation.
