Reco Dawson Appointed Head Basketball Coach at Georgia Highlands

After an extensive national search, Georgia Highlands College (GHC) has officially announced Reco Dawson as its new men’s basketball head coach. Dr. Nicole Levering, Director of Athletics, expressed her profound excitement for Dawson's appointment, emphasizing his proven success and exceptional leadership qualities, both on and off the court. Dr. Levering highlighted Dawson's extensive knowledge, unwavering passion, and clear vision as the precise attributes GHC sought to guide its student-athletes toward becoming their best selves, affirming that he is exactly what the Chargers’ program needs.
Dawson brings a formidable wealth of experience and a distinguished championship pedigree to his new role at GHC. Most recently, he served at Shelton State Community College. However, his significant impact was most profoundly felt during his decade-long tenure as head coach at Central Georgia Technical College. During this period, Dawson masterminded an era of unparalleled success, leading the program to an impressive three consecutive Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) championships in 2018, 2019, and 2020. His exceptional performance during these championship years also earned him Coach of the Year honors in each of those seasons. Beyond his head coaching roles, Dawson’s coaching résumé includes valuable assistant coaching stints at Georgia Southwestern State University and South Georgia Technical College, further solidifying his diverse and comprehensive experience in collegiate basketball.

Beyond his on-court achievements, Dawson has consistently demonstrated a strong and commendable commitment to academic excellence among his student-athletes. Over his impressive 13 years as a head coach, he has proudly mentored 35 conference All-Academic student-athletes and four highly respected NJCAA All-Academic honorees. This unwavering dedication to both athletic and academic success perfectly aligns with GHC’s institutional values.
