DAR ES SALAAM Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has urged citizens and businesses to actively seize the economic and technological opportunities presented at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as ‘Sabasaba’.
Speaking during a visit to the fairgrounds yesterday, he emphasised the strategic importance of Dar es Salaam, home to over 5 million residents, as a vital commercial hub for East and Central Africa and a key asset for TanTrade.
Chalamila highlighted the city’s unique position bordering several landlocked countries, including Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Malawi.
This geographic advantage makes Dar es Salaam a natural gateway for trade, boosting both regional influence and national income growth.
He noted that the DITF offers opportunities to create both direct and short-term employment, while serving as a barometer for Tanzania’s broader economic, technological and social progress.
The Regional Commissioner described the fair as a valuable platform to showcase Tanzania’s digital capabilities and prepare the country for participation in the modern global economy.
He also called on exhibitors and visitors to be mindful of environmental protection, stressing that damaging the business environment threatens national security.
To facilitate access, Chalamila assured attendees that Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services would be available throughout the 13-day event.
He detailed extended routes operating from key locations such as Mbezi, Kariakoo, Morocco, Posta, Mbagala, Mbande and Chamazi to the Sabasaba grounds to ease transportation for visitors.
TanTrade Director General Latifa Khamis highlighted that the fair is expected to generate over 15,000 jobs.
She added that this year’s event would implement e-ticketing through mobile networks to simplify entry and reduce queues.
Additionally, local exhibitors will have new opportunities to showcase and sell their products via digital platforms, further supporting business growth and innovation in the region.
