Whether Kevin Durant is coming to Toronto or not, it's likely that the Raptors make some moves this offseason.
One could involve trading away one of their top scorers.
The Athletic's Eric Koreen says RJ Barrett is a likely trade candidate due to salary cap implications.
"(Barrett) is somewhat redundant with Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram, and the Raptors have extended both of those players within the last year," Koreen writes. "... I don't think Barrett would bring back a windfall of picks, but if the Raptors could send out more money than they bring back in such a trade, that would be another sensible way to duck the tax."
If the Raptors are targeting a star, Barrett's salary could be helpful in matching to fit trade rules.
He averaged 21.1 points per game in 58 appearances this past season.
Barrett is one of those guys who puts up big numbers often but doesn't always find a way to get his team wins.
He's certainly a flawed player, but his talent is enough that another team could find him appealing.
Koreen is right that Barrett is surplus to proceedings in Toronto.
If the Raptors want to keep this ship moving in the right direction, a Barrett departure might indeed be the way to go.
