Randy Orton's trap over John Cena ahead of WWE Backlash 2025

John Cena and Randy Orton had one final altercation on WWE SmackDown before their Undisputed WWE Championship match at WWE Backlash. Cena delivered a promo, believing Orton was absent, only to be proven wrong. Orton executed a ruse, culminating in an RKO on Cena, marking the third time he's done so since the RAW after WrestleMania 41.

The Friday night WWE SmackDown before Backlash in Dayton, Ohio, featured tag-team action and a closing segment with Cena. Cena's promo included personal insults aimed at Orton's family and career. A masked imposter received an Attitude Adjustment, allowing Orton to sneak in and deliver an RKO. Despite the simplicity, the feud has been effective.

Alexa Bliss made a return after her disappearance post-Royal Rumble. She was involved in a match between Zelina Vegas and Chelsea Green, where she delivered a Sister Abigail DDT on Green. Fans want to see Bliss contend for a title.

Naomi's interference cost Jade Cargill the win against Nia Jax, setting up a rematch. Charlotte Flair made an appearance, teasing a match with Cargill. An interaction between Flair and Bliss also occurred backstage.

LA Knight and Damian Priest defeated Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa. Drew McIntyre attacked Fatu with a Claymore Kick. Aleister Black defeated Carmelo Hayes and then attacked The Miz.

Rey Fenix and Andrade defeated Los Garza, who seemed to be at odds. Gunther vs. Pat McAfee was hyped up with a video package. The Street Profits lost to Fraxiom in a non-title match, with Montez Ford's bruised ribs hindering him.
