Ram Charan and Shankar’s Game Changer, which hit the screens on January 10, was expected to do well in Tamil Nadu because the I helmer is a force to reckon with in the market. Moreover, the ‘Mega Power Star’ too enjoys a strong fan following in the state because of his work in SS Rajamouli’s period action drama RRR. Despite this, the action drama has failed to live up to expectations at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Game Changer disappoints at the Tamil Nadu box office

Shankar, who suffered a setback when Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 tanked at the box office, was expected to bounce back with Game Changer. The film created a great deal of buzz in Tamil Nadu with its ‘massy’ trailer, which further raised expectations. However, the film has failed to live up to the hype. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a trade analyst, Game Changer’s run is almost over and it has earned merely Rs 10.5 crore in the state.

“Game Changer has grossed ₹10.5 cr in TN. The film has failed in the state with other Pongal releases outperforming it,” he told Indiatimes

Interestingly, RRR had earned nearly Rs 38.9 crore in the state.

Game Changer received mixed reviews with critics praising the performances but panning the screenplay. The average word-of-mouth went against the film. It also faced competition from Vishal’s Madha Gaja Raja, which hit the screens on January 12 and emerged as the top choice of the audience. Kadhalikka Neramillai and the Arun Vijay-led Vanangaan too were released during the Pongal season.
