A heavy rainstorm has wreaked havoc on both government and public properties in Unguwar Kara, Eyyan communities in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Abuja Metro gathered that the rain, which started around 11:47 pm on Tuesday, amid heavy wind, blew off the roofs of many houses with some others including farmlands submerged by the accompanying flood.
Our reporter, who visited some of the affected areas on Wednesday morning, observed that many houses in Yangoji including farmlands were also submerged as a result of the flood.
Other places affected included Unguwar Cashew, Bonugo community, where the roofs of many houses were blown off.
Many makeshift shops around Lambata village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway were also pulled down.
It was also observed that the rainstorm pulled down some electric poles and high-tension cables between Sheda and Pai junction along the same highway.
Some of the affected residents were seen evacuating their belongings, especially some damaged zincs and woods that were destroyed by the wind.
Mr Azaki Samuel, a resident of Sheda village, whose house roof was blown off, described the incident as unfortunate, saying he bought two bundles of zinc to fix the house last week.
He said, “I just relocated to my house about a week ago after fixing the remaining zinc and thewindstorm blew them off but I thank God that it didn’t affect life or cause any injury.”
Also speaking, another resident of Enyyan in Kwali metropolis, Gambo Ishaku, whose house was also affected, expressed concern over the incident, even as he thanked God that it did not affect his family members.
He said the heavy windstorm also affected some farmlands which were over flooded.
Our reporter, who also visited Unguwar Bassa in Paiko village in Gwagwalada Area Council, observed that roofs of many houses were also blown off while some mud houses collapsed.
Some of the affected residents were seen removing zinc and other valuables from the affected houses.
