Rain tapering off tonight, cooldown this week
Clouds and a few showers will linger through the overnight, keeping temperatures still relatively comfortable, yet cooler in the lower half of the 50s.
Any leftover showers will depart by daybreak as a cloudy sky holds temperatures fairly steady in the 50s across the area. Some places may manage to hit 60° south of I-20.
A very quiet week of weather is in store as a surface high pressure moves in, leading to sunny days Tuesday through Thursday. This will allow for a warming trend each afternoon as highs rise through the 60s and back into the 70s by Thursday.
Our morning lows continue to cool heading into Wednesday morning which is when the coolest weather is expected area-wide this week. Temperatures will fall into the middle and upper 30s. With clear and calm conditions in place, light frost is likely north of Birmingham and along the I-20 corridor toward Georgia just east of town. This is where temperatures will be coolest, and where you may want to cover your plants before heading to bed Tuesday night.
For the rest of the area, temperatures may not be cold enough for frost but we will continue to monitor. A Frost Advisory may need to be issued for parts of central Alabama as we grow closer to Tuesday night.
Otherwise, a weak cold front will pass from north to south Thursday evening into Thursday night, leading to a few light rain showers. Some of this activity may linger into Friday, but we’re keeping rain chances low for now. Expect a small cooldown heading into next weekend as overnight lows fall back to the 40s and highs swing into the mid 60s. A warmup is in store for Sunday as we rebound back into the low/mid 70s.
