A home surveillance camera has vividly captured the moment a man attempted to steal someone's property.
The camera recorded the alleged thief in black and white as he tried to steal a chicken in the dead of night.
He appeared aimless and wore nothing but a pair of shorts, without any footwear.
"Finally, I got him. They're very alert. So they usually grab them by the neck," read the Facebook caption accompanying the footage.
The chickens were inside their coop when the incident happened, as recorded by the CCTV.
The footage showed two angles of the coop to give the owner a better view of what transpired.
Some chickens were seen sleeping on a board when the alleged thief slowly approached them.
He appeared to scan the area, and although there was no guard present, the strategically placed cameras captured everything.
He did not have a source of light—no candle or torch—for fear of being seen or disturbing the chickens.
At least three chickens were seen resting beside each other in the CCTV footage.
Chicken feeders were placed in the middle of the hen house, and the floor looked neat, as though it had recently been cleaned.
The alleged thief walked past the feeders and approached the three chickens, attempting to grab one.
He tried to grab one by the neck but hesitated. The closeness of his hand disturbed the chickens, making them cluck loudly, which blew his cover.
The CCTV camera quickly shifted to the area where the sound came from.
Realizing his plan had failed and fearing arrest, the alleged thief turned and fled as fast as he could.
As he ran away, a few chickens followed him out of the coop, heading toward the feeders.
However, the chickens that were on the board remained in place, seemingly undisturbed.
The video sparked mixed reactions on social media, with users flocking to the comments to share their views:
John Nyaega:
"How long did the police take to arrive and collect the thief’s remains?"
Eva Wa Amos:
"He’s shirtless to conceal his identity—must be a neighbor."
Kelvin Njogu:
"My good friend in Utawala was robbed while still inside the house. I just don't understand how they managed it."
Nelius Uaridi Mwangi:
"All my chickens were stolen. They sprayed something on them and they all fell asleep—I didn’t save even one."
Tesa JJ:
"Now I’m fully convinced that if I start rearing chickens, geese, and turkeys, security is a must."
Nancie Nyabz:
"Why come to steal without clothes? 🤔 He should’ve just grabbed the chicken by the neck properly."
