Punjab Police arrest trio linked to Babbar Khalsa in connection with Nanded murder case

Mohali: The state special operation cell (SSOC) of

Punjab Police

has arrested three operatives linked to terrorist oganistation

Babbar Khalsa

International (BKI) in connection with the

Nanded murder case

of Maharashtra. Director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced this action on Saturday.
Two of those arrested — Jagjit Singh ‘Jaggi' and Shubham Khelbude — are from Nanded, while Gurdeep Singh ‘Deepa' is from Raipur in Punjab's Ropar district. Police claim to have seized two firearms — a .12-bore pump-action gun and a .32-bore pistol — from them, along with ammuntion. These arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended in the case to six, following the earlier detentions of Jagdish Singh (Jagga), Shubhdeep Singh (Shubh), and Sachindeep Singh (Sachin).
Key roles
It has come out in preliminary investigation that Jagjit Singh played a crucial role in facilitating logistics, safe houses, and coordination for the shooters involved in the murder, which was orchestrated allegedly by Pakistan-based BKI terrorist Harvinder Singh ‘Rinda'. Jailed gangster Dilpreet Singh ‘Baba', a close associate of Rinda, had arranged safe shelters in Punjab for the accused. DGP Yadav said Jagjit Singh's criminal history included murder, attempted murder, threats, and extortion. Shubham Khelbude is also wanted in Nanded for extortion and had fled to Punjab to evade arrest. Both were into illegal activities such as arms procurement, extortion collection, and logistical support for their network under Rinda's direction. Gurdeep Singh was arrested for providing Jagjit and Shubham with shelter and logistical support to aid their escape and continued operations.

Arrest and seizures
Additional inspector general (SSOC), Mohali, Simrat Kaur, said the arrests had followed an intelligence-led operation. Shubham Khelbude and Gurdeep Singh were picked up from a sand crusher hideout in Anandpur Sahib, and their interrogation led to the arrest of Jagjit Singh from Tarn Taran later that night.
During the operation, police claimed to have seized a .32-bore pistol from Shubham and found a pump-action gun on Gurdeep, arms allegedly intended for illegal activities in Punjab and beyond. Authorities have registered a case under the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the SSOC police station in Mohali. More arrests are expected in the coming days.
