PSC appoints six DIGs, names CPs for Enugu, Oyo

The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police and the promotion of Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, to Assistant Inspector General of Police.
A statement on Tuesday by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, listed the newly appointed DIGs as Sadiq Abubakar, Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; Benjamin Okolo, AIG, Department of Information Communication Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Williams Adebowale, Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos; Bzigu Bali, AIG, FCID Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, AIG, Zone 14, Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa.
Ani also announced that Kanayo Uzuegbu, formerly CP, Enugu State Command, has been elevated to AIG.
Uzuegbu previously served as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Zone 9, Umuahia; Area Commander in Owerri and Karu, Nasarawa State; Commander of Operation Switch in Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration, Edo State Command; Deputy Commissioner, State CID, Osun State; and Commissioner of Police, Operations and Communications, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The commission further approved the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu states.
CP Ademola Johnson, formerly the Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, is now the CP, Oyo State.
He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.
CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa has been appointed as the CP, Enugu State, replacing AIG Uzuegbu.
Giwa had previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, in Kaduna and Imo states, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and CSP A, Commissioner of Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters.
The PSC also approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The newly promoted officers are Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel.
According to Ani, they underwent written examinations and oral interviews before their promotions.
The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), urged the newly appointed DIGs to work closely with the Inspector General of Police to strengthen national security and maintain law and order.
He emphasised that the new DIGs must fully support the IGP to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force is well-positioned to secure the country and uphold law and order.
