Prof Ransford Gyampo Appointed CEO Of Ghana Shippers Authority

The president has appointed Professor Ransford Gyampo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.

Gyampo, a member of the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, will be replacing Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed under the Akufo-Addo administration in December 2023.

Reports indicated that the appointment was formally confirmed in a letter from the presidency.

According to 3News sources, Sarpong has been directed to transfer his responsibilities to Prof. Gyampo immediately.

Gyampo has been the President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, University of Ghana branch since 2023.

He is a former Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana and previously served as the union's General Secretary.

Gyampo faced heavy criticism after being caught by a 2019 BBC investigation sexualy harassing a student.

He was caught making proposals of marriage to an undercover journalist who disguised as a female student wanting to be mentored by him.

Gyampo was suspended without pay after an investigation by the University of Ghana.

He disputed the conclusions of the video saying it was edited to be biased against him.

Mahama also appointed Prof Kobby Mensah as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited.

Mensah is noted as an expert in tourism marketing and an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana Business School.

The government also announced the appointment of Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority.

Margaret Ansei was appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA).

Mahama also appointed a lawyer, Abass Nurudeen, as the Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

reported that Mahama has constituted a seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee.

The initiative is intended to address the nation’s pressing economic challenges while charting a path towards sustainable development.

A statement from the presidency said economist Dr Ishmael Yamson leads the committee.

The National Economic Dialogue is expected to offer a platform for dialogue and consultation on the country's pressing development challenges.
