President Tinubu Heads To Lagos For ECOWAS Anniversary, Set To 'Virtually Inaugurate Road Projects' | Sahara Reporters

It was noted that the ceremony would be held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Victoria Island.

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday for Lagos State to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), alongside other regional leaders.

This was stated in a press statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), to the President.

The golden jubilee celebrations, which began last month in Accra, Ghana, will continue in Lagos with a series of events, including a symbolic reenactment of the 1975 declaration that established ECOWAS, the statement noted. 

"President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Tuesday for Lagos to celebrate, along with other leaders, the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)."

 "The Lagos events will include reenacting the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island," the Presidency statement read in part.

It was noted that the ceremony would be held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Victoria Island.

President Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of ECOWAS, will speak on the achievements of the regional bloc during a special event at Eko Hotels and Suites. 

Other highlights include a historical review by Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, Chairman of the NIIA and former Minister of External Affairs. A panel of experts will further examine the organization’s progress over five decades.

  "The only surviving Head of State who signed the ECOWAS declaration, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), will participate in all the ceremonies and deliver a speech at the Eko Hotels."

  It further read that Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, will open the Lagos celebrations with a welcome address.
The statement revealed that while in Lagos, President Tinubu will also commission a number of federal infrastructure projects on Saturday, May 31. 

These include Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the flag-off of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.

The President "will virtually inaugurate several road projects: the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road, Yakasai-Zalli Road, as well as flag off the Kano Northern Bypass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and the Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III."

It was further noted that President Tinubu will observe the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja.
