The President, John Dramani Mahama has promised that several key roads in the Bono Region will soon undergo major redevelopment. He made the announcement during his Thank You tour in Sunyani, where he addressed traditional leaders and residents on Friday, May 30, 2025.
President Mahama said many road projects started during his previous term were left unfinished when the government changed in 2017. As a result, some communities remain cut off, delaying development in the region.
“Important roads like the Sunyani inner and outer ring roads, the Catholic University road, the Berekum-Sampa road, the Sampa-Wenchi road, the Odumase-Badu road, Kyeremasu-Gambia Number 1 and 2 roads, the Sunyani-Techiman road, and the Kumasi-Sunyani road have all been included in our redevelopment plans,” he said.
He explained that these roads have been prioritized under what he calls the “Big Push” infrastructure programme. According to Mr. Mahama, the Minister of Finance has set aside sufficient funds for the projects.
“The Finance Minister has assured me that funding will not be a problem. Every contractor will be paid within two weeks of submitting their payment request,” he added.
He encouraged traditional leaders and residents to hold contractors accountable if they notice delays, emphasizing that any hold-ups will not be due to lack of money.
The Minister of Roads and Highways has already completed technical assessments, and work is expected to begin soon. Mahama promised the roads would be built with high quality, durability, and completed on time.
“These roads are very important for farming, trade, healthcare, and the everyday lives of our people,” he said.
