Pop!
This morning while waiting for my coffee to drip through I looked out the window at the irises. There was the one open flower and a bunch of buds. When I looked out in the afternoon, this is what I saw. Pop! A whole bunch of the buds popped open and now there are a lot of purple irises out there in the wind. (We had a very chilly wind blowing today. Last week it was in the high 70s and low 80s. This week it's supposed to barely get into the 50s. Last week A/C, this week furnace. *throws hands up*)
I was lucky enough to catch a female Oriole having a grape jelly snack this afternoon. I filled the dish and not long after she showed up. She didn't stay long on the first visit but about an hour later she came back and stayed a while. Look how much paler she is than the male. Quite a difference.
The Robin took a bath. I tried to get a picture of it splashing in the water but it was all blurry (what a surprise) so we're going with this one of it getting ready to splash. Robins are very energetic bathers. They splash a lot of water out of the birdbath so I have to go out and refill it when they're done.
A Downy Woodpecker landed on the birdbath for a drink today. They hardly every do that so I was happy I could capture a picture.
The lilies of the valley on the side of the backyard started to open. I don't remember planting them there but they must have piggybacked when I transplanted some day lilies there. However they got there I'm glad to see them.
I spent most of the day doing writing stuff. In the morning I had a two-hour Zoom with cda critiquing parts of our respective novels. I complained that I was kind of stuck for what to do with a couple characters so she did a little brainstorming and something she said sparked an idea. So I spent most of the afternoon writing two much-needed scenes and figuring out where to slot them into the big manuscript. Hopefully those hours of writing will kick start my brain and help me keep thinking stuff up.
Today's drawing is Sweets and Treats so I drew candy. I spent so much time writing that I didn't take the time to color it in before coming back here to blog.
Tomorrow afternoon I get to go to DaVinci school and listen to LC's first band concert. She's learning to play the trombone which her daddy plays and one of her great-grandpa's played, too. I'm sure it's a good thing that she has strong arms because that's a big instrument for a young lady. I'm looking forward to the concert.
