The Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, has outlined three reasons for which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 Election.

Speaking in a recent interview on Peace FM, Mussa Dankwah stated that Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo contributed to the party's defeat.

According to him, 80% of Ghanaian voters blamed him for the party's defeat due to the way he governed the country in the past three years.

He emphasised that public dissatisfaction with the former president played a major role in the election outcome.

"About 80% of voters blamed Nana Addo for NPP's loss. That is quite huge," he said.

Mussa Dankwah also pointed out that the inability of the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to distance himself from his boss made it difficult for voters to appreciate him.

"Secondly, Bawumia, not for his performance, but his ties with Nana Addo. He could not distance himself from Nana Addo," he noted.

He added that although Bawumia tried to disassociate himself from the president, many Ghanaians were not convinced.

"If you remember, he was trying to move away from Nana Addo a bit. That would have helped if people had believed him, but they didn't buy into that," he explained.

Mussa Dankwah further pointed out that some policies of the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, also played a critical role in the party's defeat.

He noted that the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) was very unpopular and affected the party's chances in the election.

According to him, he became so unpopular that many Ghanaians, including a number of NPP Members of Parliament and senior party officials, urged Akufo-Addo to relieve him of his duties, but the president only did so towards the end of his tenure.

In the 2024 Election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious.

The NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 41.32% of the total votes, representing 4,735,687 votes, while Mahama secured 56.68% from 6,779,025 votes.
