Police probe suspected arson of Afigya Kwabre South MCE's residence
The official residence of Pearl Ankrah was set ablaze
Investigations are reportedly underway by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to determine the circumstances surrounding a violent attack on the official residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Pearl Ankrah, by unknown assailants.
The incident on June 21, 2025, which saw parts of the residence engulfed in flames, causing extensive damage, is suspected to be an act of arson carried out by some unscrupulous persons.
A report by asaaseradio.com on June 23, 2025, has indicated that residents have linked the incident to Ankrah’s rejection by some local supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), following her endorsement by President John Dramani Mahama.
The report further stated that two suspects have been apprehended and are in police custody, assisting with investigations into the incident, which the police have classified as arson.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded as Ankrah was reportedly out of the house at the time of the attack.
It would be recalled that her nomination as MCE sparked controversy among some disgruntled local party members, who accused Ankrah of failing to build bridges with grassroots supporters in the constituency.
As far back as two months ago, a faction of the constituency organised an open protest, strongly opposing and expressing their displeasure over her appointment, and even threatening to burn the assembly block.
