Police eliminate four suspected armed robbers in Bekwai-Fomena shootout

Accra, Ghana - April 14, 2025 - In a dramatic escalation of law enforcement efforts, the Ghana Police Service has been involved in two significant incidents, resulting in fatalities and ongoing investigations. These events underscore the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety and combating criminal activity across the country.
In the Ashanti Region, specifically in the Adansi areas, a fierce shootout between police personnel and a suspected armed robbery gang has led to the death of four individuals. According to reports, the suspected robbers were allegedly responsible for a series of robberies and attacks targeting travelers on the Bekwai-Fomena stretch. The suspects had reportedly mounted an illegal roadblock, ambushing unsuspecting commuters.
Upon receiving a distress call, police officers swiftly responded to the scene. The confrontation quickly escalated into a heated exchange of gunfire, resulting in the fatal shooting of four suspects. Two other suspects, despite sustaining gunshot wounds, managed to escape into the nearby bush. The Police have initiated a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice. A thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full details surrounding the incident and to identify the deceased individuals.
In a separate incident, the Police Service is also actively investigating the shooting of two police officers in the Upper East Region. The officers were attacked on April 13, 2025, at Poyamirea, near Binduri. Preliminary investigations indicate that the officers, who were not in uniform at the time, were travelling on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri when they were ambushed. The assailants not only shot the officers but also stole their motorbike.
A statement released by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, confirmed the tragic event. The names of the deceased officers are being withheld pending notification of their families, in accordance with traditional customs.
The Police Administration has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased officers, as well as to their colleagues and the entire police force in the region.
