Police arrest two over kidnap, murder of bank manager in Onitsha
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of a female bank manager in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Onitsha yesterday. Ikenga disclosed that the suspects killed their victim after collecting a ransom of N14 million from her family.
“Following the assurance of the Anambra State Police Command to follow up on cases until suspects are apprehended to prevent further criminal activities in the state, two suspects were arrested on May 28,” Ikenga said.
He identified the suspects as 32-year-old Monday Egbe and 28-year-old Kenneth Nnoga, who were apprehended in their criminal hideout in a neighbouring state during a police operation.
“The unfortunate incident occurred on January 13, when the lifeless body of the victim was found along Nnobi Road with her eyes tied after the abductors had collected a ransom of N14 million from the deceased’s family,” Ikenga added.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to provide more details about the criminal gang’s operations and assist in tracking down other members.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He assured the public that the investigation would be pursued to its logical conclusion to ensure justice is served. Ikenga also appealed to residents to support the police by reporting any suspicious activities and following cases to their conclusion.
