PHOTOS: Shettima attends funeral of Sam Nujoma, Namibia's founding president | TheCable

Nujoma led the long fight for independence from South Africa in 1990 after helping found Namibia’s liberation movement known as the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) in the 1960s.

After independence, Nujoma became president in 1990 and led the country until 2005.

He on February 8 at the age of 95 in a hospital where he had been receiving treatment for weeks due to an illness in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.

Shettima joined other African dignitaries, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, former President Thabo Mbeki, and ex-Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, to attend Nujoma’s funeral on Saturday.

President Bola Tinubu described Nujoma as a warrior who galvanised Nigeria and other African nations to fight for his country’s freedom.
