The disaster has displaced approximately 600 people in areas such as Agavedzi, leaving many homeless and in distress.

During his visit, President Mahama directed the Minister of Finance to make immediate budgetary allocations for the commencement of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project Phase 2. The initiative aims to curb the recurring destruction caused by tidal waves in Ketu South and Keta.

Funding for the sea defence project will be captured in the budget to be presented to Parliament in a few days,” he assured the victims.

Beyond the sea defence initiative, President Mahama announced that the government would secure a safe resettlement site for displaced families.

There are two things we have to do—build a sea defence wall and provide accommodation for those affected,” he emphasized.

The devastation caused by tidal waves in Ketu South and Keta has been a persistent issue, prompting heightened government attention.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu recently spent a night with affected residents to assess the situation and reinforce the government’s commitment to long-term climate resilience measures.
