A cylinder from the truck
A gas leak was still visible from one of the CNG cylinders when TheCable visited the scene on Thursday morning.
According to Isa, an eyewitness, the explosion occurred when the CNG truck driver lost control of his vehicle. The articulated truck crashed into several vehicles.
He recalled that the driver warned people to flee, fearing the gas cylinders might explode.
Fire service officials confirmed that some cylinders were still leaking and advised residents to stay away from the area.
Mangled vehicles littered the scene.
Another eyewitness recounted that he had been sleeping in a vehicle when the initial collision woke him up. In panic, he escaped through the window of his car, he said.
, the corps public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said six persons died and 25 others were injured.
Ogungbemide said the accident involved 18 vehicles, including two articulated vehicles, two buses, one jeep and 11 cars.
