The Manchester City manager squared up to Henderson after the final whistle, which saw Palace make history.

Eberechi Eze's goal in the 16th minute was the difference between the two sides as Palace finally won their first major trophy.

The game was punctuated by controversial incidents with Henderson firmly at the centre. The Crystal Palace shot-stopper survived red card calls after he handled the ball outside his area.

Henderson parried the ball away to prevent Erling Haaland from getting to it. The VAR agreed with the on-field decision, and he went unpunished.

A few minutes later, he stepped up and saved Omar Marmoush's penalty. Many expected Haaland to take the spotkick after Tyrell Mitchell had fouled Bernardo Silva, but the Norwegian passed the opportunity to Marmoush.

"If Haaland stepped up, I wasn't sure where he would go, but when Marmoush stepped up, I knew where he was going. I knew I would save Marmoush's penalty, I knew where he was going," he said on BBC Sports.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper made seven saves against City, but it was his time-wasting tactics that angered Guardiola. Henderson took longer than usual to take goal-kicks and was booked for it.

After the final whistle, Guardiola approached Henderson and the two had to be separated to avoid a full-blown scuffle.

"I just wanted to shake Pep Guardiola's hand and I think he was disappointed with my time wasting. I said to him that he got his 10 minutes of extra time, so no hard feelings?" said Henderson when asked what he told Guardiola during the confrontation.

The former Barcelona manager refused to divulge what they had talked about.

Fans online reacted to the exchange with many calling Guardiola a sore loser.

Charles Dickie said,

"Pep has an incredible CV and trophy cabinet, but he's gone really sour really quickly. A bad loser at a fairly unlikeable club. Every other club was Palace today."

Martyn Stevenson said,

"No matter what happens in the game, you should be man enough to shake somebody's hand. What an arrogant, ignorant little man. He deserved to lose today. Awful attitude."

Craig Wilkinson said,

"Sore loser and I have been saying for years, not as great a manager as people think. He’s like the guy on FIFA games who only picks the best teams so can do as he likes and players pull him out his problems but could never manage a smaller team doesn’t have the ability."

Crystal Palace are set to benefit from the sizeable prize purse of the FA Cup.

The club will also qualify for the Europa League football for the first time in their history.

Oliver Glasner will be hoping to repeat his 2022 tricks that saw him guide Eintracht Frankfurt to victory in the same competition.
