People who defected with Oborevwori to APC are returning to PDP - Ex-aide, Ojei

I did that because I considered it an act of betrayal to the people of Delta State, because we are running with the Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All, Realistic Reform and Enhanced Peace and Security agenda for the people of the state. As I speak to you, we will not be able to meet up with this social contract that we went into with the people prior to the election in 2023. The people gave the mandate to the governor on the basis of this agreement. But the governor dumped the people’s party overnight. Even if you want to migrate politically, you have the duty to reach out to the people of Delta State who gave you the mandate to govern the state. You are supposed to consult with them and state the reasons for your migration. But you didn’t consult with the people. Two people just slept, woke up, and decided that Delta State should become an APC state without consultation.

I know he didn’t. I’m fully on the ground in Delta State. At least, I was an appointee of the governor until the 25th of April, 2025, when I resigned. The current government in Delta has not given adequate attention to the crisis plaguing the state. We have insecurity that increases daily. Gunmen have been kidnapping back-to-back. We just paid a ransom of N10m a few days ago to free two people who were kidnapped in my community. So, kidnapping is a daily occurrence in Delta State, yet the government is not paying attention to this. Do you know that 98 per cent of police stations in Delta State don’t have patrol vehicles? How do you expect the police to combat crime?

It is so obvious; the immediate past governor, Okowa, has a pending case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He was accused of misappropriating N1.3tn project funds. He’s still under investigation, but we know that the case will not see the light of day because it will be swept under the carpet. Remember that former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, once said if you come over to APC, your sins shall be forgiven. That rule is still in place, and that is why you see some PDP governors singing for President Tinubu and joining the APC. They are doing that in case of unforeseen circumstances. They are running away because of what they have done. They know that they are not innocent; their hands are not clean. That is why they are running, because they don’t want to be held accountable for their actions.

They feel the only way to escape the consequences of their actions is to mortgage the interest and future of the people of Delta State by cross-carpeting from the PDP to the APC. This is a political betrayal of the people of the state. This is a political migration for selfish gain, not for the interest of the people. It is for the politicians’ survival.

The fact remains that billions of naira were spent on their defection. A lot of APC stakeholders were settled, and that is not going to be a one-time thing. Their movement to APC implies that on a monthly basis, they are going to be funding the party’s activities at the national level. But I know that eventually, there are going to be conflicts of interest among them because many bigwigs are now involved at the state level. They are going to fight and attack one another because they do not have one voice. For instance, Monday Onyeme is the current Deputy Governor of Delta State. Friday Osanebi was the former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly and a gubernatorial candidate at the time Onyeme contested in the APC. Now, do you think that Osanebi would want to take instructions from Onyeme in Ndokwa Nation? Do you think that someone like Osai, who was in the House of Representatives for many years, would want to take instructions from Osanebi? Also, do you think that Governor Sheriff would give instructions to Senator Ned Nwoko and the lawmaker would answer him after the governor had frustrated him out of the PDP to the APC? So, it’s like mixing water and oil. That is what the Delta APC is like now.

Of course, there is going to be an implosion. Yes, they are heavyweights, but they are going to sink under their own weight. The power was given to them by the people of Delta State, who are more than these few names that you just mentioned. Power belongs to the people. There is no politician who can vote himself into power if the people don’t vote for him. The people of Delta State are already tired, and they are going to respond by way of a revolution that will come in the 2027 election through their votes. It won’t be violent. The people will protest with their votes.

You saw what happened in Lagos State during the 2023 election when the Labour Party members organised themselves. You saw how they exercised their voting rights in Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory. We also saw how members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party organised themselves, voted, and protected their votes in Kano State. Most politicians are running to the APC because they feel that the party will rig the 2027 election, but they forget that there are some elections you cannot rig because the people will revolt.

For now, we don’t have any bigwigs in the PDP, but someone will rise eventually. He will challenge and even win the election as far as the masses support him. I believe if the people support any candidate, he will emerge victoriously. The ruling party can’t rig such an election.

It is a lie. The party is coming up as I speak to you. Some members of the PDP in Delta South held a meeting on Saturday. There was also a very big meeting in the Ndokwa nation. So, the PDP members have started reorganising themselves. Mind you, some of the people who migrated with the governor to the APC have been coming back. Delta people are murmuring; they are not happy that just a few leaders could wake up and decide to cede the state to the APC. Or how can we sleep as PDP and wake up as APC overnight? That is political chameleonism.

The people of Delta State feel betrayed. You need to come to the streets and conduct a vox populi to see how angry they are. They have vowed to retaliate in 2027 and vote against the APC.

Yes. We have set up a movement called the Delta Youth Alliance, and it is growing. The movement has presence in 25 local government areas. As I speak with you, we have set up our social media platforms, including WhatsApp groups. We are mobilising our people and organising them. They are joining, and we are organising meetings as I speak. So, PDP is still very strong in Delta State. Do you know that on the day the governor and all moved from the PDP to the APC, the Delta House of Assembly members paid people, including women and young boys, N10,000 each to fill up the field? It was not as if they came to the field willingly. They used money to induce them. You know they have been using hunger as a tool against the poor masses. The House of Assembly members and local government chairmen paid people to attend the event. I know some people who were paid to come to the “movie” that they acted. I call it a movie because the genuine people of the state were not part of it. The ones that you saw there were induced financially, given between N10,000 and N5,000.

Yes, it will survive. This is because we have started apologising to one another. I’m talking about the PDP, the Labour Party and other political parties. There is an ongoing plot to have a coalition, which will be the coming together of the major political parties. They are going to drop their differences and interests to focus on how to recover Nigeria and Delta State from the APC. Since 2015 till date, the APC has never had a solution to Nigeria’s problems. Governance is all about solving the problems of the people. It is not all about power. But what I see today is that our politicians are focused on power. They are already struggling on how to take power in 2027. Many of them don’t even know that they might not be alive to see 2027.
