A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, has revealed that some PDP governors are being pressured to leave the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Ologbondiyan made this claim on Tuesday while speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme.

His comments come after a recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara (who is currently suspended), and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He dismissed claims that the ongoing crisis within the PDP was the main reason members were defecting, insisting that many of them are being harassed into leaving.

He stated, “Talking about the Rivers situation, I will be honest. I think that the PDP did all it could, some on a negative side, others on a positive side. I think the takeaway for the People’s Democratic Party in this matter is that its governors are being harassed.

“They are being humiliated and whether they can openly say it or not, they are being forced to abandon their party and join the All Progressive Congress and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political party.”

Ologbondiyan acknowledged that Tinubu stepping in to settle the rift between Wike and Fubara was a political win for the APC and a loss for the PDP.

He advised the PDP to move on from the crisis in Rivers State and focus on protecting the loyalty of its governors.

In March, following a long-running dispute between Governor Fubara and Wike, President Tinubu declared a political state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending both the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, along with the state’s House of Assembly.

But in a twist, Tinubu brokered peace between the two on Sunday in a closed-door meeting.

Meanwhile, two PDP governors, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, have recently defected to the APC, blaming the internal crisis within the PDP for their decisions.
