The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has announced that Parliament will sit on Mondays and Saturdays beginning Monday, 7th July 2025.

He explained that the additional sittings are to allow for the maturity of certain Legislative Instruments before Parliament adjourns sine die.

He made this known on the floor of the House while presenting the Business Statement for the seventh week ending Saturday, 12th July 2025.

Hon. Mahama Ayariga, who is also the Chairman of the Business Committee, stated that fifty-five (55) Ministers and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, are expected to appear before the House to respond to questions during the week.

He added that Bills may be introduced for First Reading, and those of an urgent nature may be taken through the various stages in a single day, in accordance with Standing Order 160. He also noted that Papers may be laid during the week, and reports from committees may be presented to the House for consideration.

“Motions may be debated, and their consequential Resolutions, if any, taken during the week. In accordance with Standing Order 216(2), and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House the order in which the business shall be taken,” he stated.

Commenting on the Business Statement, the Minority Leader, Hon. Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, urged the Majority Leader to schedule the EC Boss, Madam Jean Mensa, to brief the House on the rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The latest decision to add Mondays and Saturdays to the parliamentary schedule is novel but is intended to increase the efficiency of the House in passing critical bills before the next recess.
