Patna: Sharda Sinha, also known as ‘
Bihar Kokila
', was bestowed with the
Padma Vibhushan
award, posthumously. This recognition honours her immense contribution to the preservation and promotion of Bihar's rich cultural heritage through her soulful renditions of folk songs and Chhath ‘geets'.
Born in Supaul in 1952 and then married in Begusarai, Sharda's melodious voice resonated with the essence of Bihar's soil, capturing the hearts of millions across the globe. She sang mainly in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Hindi, as well as Magahi. Her renditions of
Chhath songs
became an integral part of the festival's celebrations, transcending geographical boundaries and uniting people in a shared experience of devotion and joy.
