“The Prince of Darkness” is returning to his documentary storytelling roots.

Paramount+ has announced the production of Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now, a new feature-length documentary that, per the logline, “peers behind Ozzy’s public persona to reveal the devastating setbacks he has faced since his fateful fall in 2019.”

The project is slated to premiere on Paramount+ later this year.

The Osbourne family (sans older daughter Aimee) are no strangers to the docuseries format, of course. In 2002, the arrival of weekly half-hour The Osbournes on MTV changed the face of reality television. The category at the time was populated with entries like America’s Most Wanted, Cops and The Real World. There was no social media. And it was unprecedented for a celebrity family to give cameras complete access to their home.

Flash to that first episode of The Osbournes and we were immediately fascinated with this “real” family with real issues. No topic was out of bounds. And it paved the way to Anna Nicole Smith in The Anna Nicole Show, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in The Simple Life, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and countless other personalities wanting to be featured. Most recent is the arrival of the Emmy Award-winning Alec Baldwin and his large brood in The Baldwins on TLC.

MTV officials said March 4, 2002 that Ozzy Osbourne, the heavy metal rock star and his family are the subject of a new MTV series, "The Osbournes," which premieres 10:30 p.m. EST Tuesday, March 5, 2002. Featuring full access to Ozzy, Sharon Osbourne and their children, Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now will also feature Ozzy’s bandmate Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), guitarist Zakk Wylde, producer Andrew Watt and friend/musician Billy Morrison.

“This film is an honest account of what has happened to Ozzy during the last few years. It shows how hard things have been for him and the courage he has shown while dealing with a number of serious health issues, including Parkinson’s. It’s about the reality of his life now," said Sharon Osbourne in a statement. "We have worked with a production team we trust and have allowed them the freedom to tell the story openly. We hope that story will inspire people that are facing similar issues to Ozzy.”

Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now is produced by UK production house Echo Velvet (It’s Showtime, Kids Like Us), in partnership with the Osbournes & MTV Entertainment Studios. The documentary is executive produced by Bruce Gillmer and Amanda Culkowski (MTV Entertainment Studios), Phil Alexander (Echo Velvet; former Editor-in-Chief, MOJO, Q, Kerrang!) and Sharon Osbourne (Sharon Osbourne Management).
