The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is stepping up its anti-corruption efforts within Ghana's mining sector through direct engagement with key industry stakeholders.

This initiative was announced on Monday, June 30, 2025, on the OSP's official X page.

"The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is stepping up efforts to reduce corruption in the mining sector," the post read.

"In a bid to push back against corruption, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) partnered with the Office to engage its stakeholders on the risks of engaging in corrupt acts within its operations in Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region," the post added.

According to the OSP, Samuel Appiah Darko, Director for Strategy and Research at the OSP, led the engagement session.

He provided insights into the OSP's mandate, highlighting its powers to investigate, prosecute, and recover proceeds of corruption involving public officials, politicians and their families, as well as private sector actors.

Participants were also informed about the various channels for reporting corruption, along with the protections and reward schemes available to whistleblowers.

The post further noted that Samuel Boakye Pobee, Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, and his team used the platform to demonstrate the company’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

The event brought together a diverse group, including mining staff, contractors, traditional leaders, government representatives, and the media.
