Oscars 2025 winners: 'Anora' dominates with five awards, Adrien Brody claims Second Best Actor award
Anora emerged as the biggest winner at the 2025 Academy Awards, securing five major honors, including Best Picture.
Director Sean Baker took home Best Director, using his speech to emphasise the importance of preserving cinemas, calling them "a vital part of our culture."
Baker, who also won Best Editing, thanked the sex workers whose stories inspired the film, stating, "We couldn’t have made this film without them."
The film’s dominance continued with wins for Best Original Screenplay, where Baker credited his cast for making him "look very good."
In a surprise upset, Mikey Madison won Best Actress, defying expectations that Demi Moore would claim the award.
Adrien Brody was awarded Best Actor for his portrayal of Hungarian architect Lazlo Toth in The Brutalist, marking his second Academy Award, 22 years after his first for The Pianist (2003).
During an emotional acceptance speech, Brody paid tribute to his partner Georgina Chapman, expressing gratitude for "reinvigorating my self-worth and sense of value." He also called for an end to anti-semitism.
