The operation, dubbed "Operation Sindoor," targeted at least nine locations, including terrorist camps and infrastructure.

India has conducted airstrikes against what it calls "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, in retaliation for a deadly terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley that killed 26 civilians on April 22.

The operation, dubbed "Operation Sindoor," targeted at least nine locations, including terrorist camps and infrastructure.

The Indian government, according to RT stated that the strikes were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature," and that no Pakistani military facilities or civilians were targeted.

"Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution," the Indian government said in a statement.

Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemned the Indian operation, calling it a "cowardly" attack.

"Pakistan has every right to respond forcefully to this act of war imposed by India, and a forceful response is being given."

Pakistan's Punjab province has been put on high alert, with hospitals, rescue teams, and administration on standby, and schools closed throughout Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Russia has expressed deep concern over the escalating military confrontation, urging both countries to exercise restraint.

"Russia strongly condemns acts of terrorism, opposes any of its manifestations and emphasises the need to unite the efforts of the entire international community to effectively combat this evil."

China found India's strikes "regrettable," while opposing "all forms of terrorism." China urged both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, remain calm, and exercise restraint.

Expressing concern about the ongoing situation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, “We urge both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from taking actions that may further complicate the situation.”

However, Israel has expressed support for India's right to self-defense, with Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar posting on X, "Israel supports India’s right for self defense. Terrorists should know there’s no place to hide from their heinous crimes against the innocent."

The airstrikes follow a terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley, which India has blamed on Pakistan-based militant groups, including The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be tied to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Pakistan has denied any role in the attack and called for an impartial probe.

The nuclear-armed neighbors have fought four wars since gaining independence from the UK in 1947.

The recent suspension of the 1972 Shimla Agreement by Pakistan has raised concerns about the sanctity of the Line of Control (LoC) between the two nations.
