Only S'Court can overturn judgment, Osun APC tells Adeleke, PDP
Against the backdrop of a raging crisis over the control of local councils in Osun State, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, told the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Ademola Adeleke not to misinterpret the recent Court of Appeal judgment, delivered in Akure.
It also cautioned that only the Supreme Court has the authority to invalidate the February 10, 2025, judgment of the Court of Appeal, which reinstated APC-elected council chairmen and councillors hitherto sacked by a Federal High Court ruling in November 2022.
A statement by the APC Legal Adviser in Osun State, Adegoke Ogunsola, accused Adeleke and the PDP of jubilating over the June 13, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment in bad faith.
“The PDP and Governor Adeleke are twisting the facts. The Court of Appeal’s decision on June 13 did not overturn its earlier judgment of February 10. Only the Supreme Court can do that,” he argued.
He, therefore, chided the Adeleke administration for citing a “purported” PDP-conducted council election held on February 22, 2025, which he insisted had no legal standing and was not part of the issues before the court.
MEANWHILE, Adeleke has said that he will pursue legal means as a form of peaceful resolution to the ongoing council crisis in the state. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Osogbo by Spokesperson to the Governor, Olawale Rasheed
Adeleke, however, hailed the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which he said reaffirmed the legality of the PDP council chairmen and councillors.
According to the governor, the latest judgment by the court has put an end to lies about the reinstatement of the APC chairmen and councillors.
The governor, while commending the security agencies for their commitment to law, as well as peace and tranquility in the state, also commended residents of the state for their patience and commitment and urged them to remain peaceful in their conduct.
