Olubadan Declares Sarkin Sasa Title Void, Affirms Baale's Sole Authority In Sasa Land | Sahara Reporters
The decision was announced following a meeting of the Olubadan-in-Council held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), has declared the title of Sarkin Sasa as void and unrecognised under the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy Law, reaffirming the exclusive authority of the Baale of Sasa land in Akinyele Local Government Area.
The decision was announced following a meeting of the Olubadan-in-Council held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
According to an official statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Olugbemiga Ayoade, the council emphasised that the chieftaincy law only acknowledges the Baale of Sasa as the legitimate traditional leader.
“Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa is the recognised Baale of Sasa land in Akinyele Local Government Area and the accredited representative of the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” the statement read.
The Olubadan further warned that all residents and stakeholders in Sasa land must recognise Chief Amusa's authority, stressing that any form of disobedience or challenge to his leadership would be viewed as a direct affront to the Olubadan stool and would attract serious consequences.
“It is imperative to accord him the appropriate respect and authority,” the monarch stated. “Any disobedience to his directive will be met with serious sanctions.”
The declaration follows a controversial incident on March 8, 2025, during the 8th-day Fidau prayer for the late Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Kastina.
The event, held in Sasa, unexpectedly included a turbaning ceremony for his son, Ciroma, as the new Sarkin Sasa—a title the Olubadan has now unequivocally dismissed as non-existent in the eyes of Ibadan’s traditional laws.
The Olubadan’s position aims to curb the emergence of parallel authorities and ensure adherence to the recognised traditional leadership structure in Ibadanland.
