Okupe Lived A Life Of Impactful Service, Says Gov. Abiodun
The late Dr. Doyin Okupe’s life and times, according to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, were marked by impactful service, resilience, and unwavering commitment and dedication to Nigeria, his family, and faith.
Governor Abiodun also described the former spokesperson for former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as highly intelligent, kind, humble, and generous.
The Governor stated this during Dr. Okupe’s final burial service at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun described Dr. Okupe as a noble man and a warrior who fought for democracy, pointing out that he was always cheerful, smiling, and slow to anger.
“He was a media expert, an articulate and fearless spokesperson. He was a professional in politics, not a professional politician; he was a dependable, principled individual.
“He would not change his viewpoint or position because anyone tried to influence him, unless it was out of conviction, an inner conviction,” he stated.
The Governor stated that the late Okupe’s political beliefs did not define his personal relationships and did not jeopardise his relationships with him or others during his lifetime.
“As tenacious a politician as he was, he never defined his personal relationships. He could take a political stance against you, but that would not prevent him from maintaining a positive friendship with you.
“He drew a line between politics and personal relationships,” he explained.
Abiodun urged the congregation and the people of the state to live a life of impact by treating others as they would like to be treated, noting that a person can live an impactful life even if they do not become politicians.
Earlier in his message, The Most Rev. Adegbemi Atanda Adewale, the Methodist Archbishop of Egba-Yewa and the Archbishop of RIYE, described Dr. Okupe’s death as a loss as well as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of living a life that honours God and serves humanity.
The Archbishop charged the congregation and the people of the state to use their talents, time, and gifts to make a positive impact on the world around them, stating that Dr.Okupe’s life demonstrated the truth that those in positions of power, as well as the wealthy in society, should use their lives to impact the lives of those around them.
The Most Rev. Adewale stated that Dr. Okupe’s attitude demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of his people and family, and that his legacy will continue to inspire both his children and future generations.
Members of the Ogun State Executive Council, Arc. Yemisi Suswam, former First Lady of Benue State, Hon. Kayode Amusan, Chief Alex Onabanjo, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Mr. Tunde Rahaman, and former Ogun State Governor Senator Gbenga Daniel were among the dignitaries who attended the burial.
