Ohanaeze Lambasts Governor Mbah: "If You Can't Protect Enugu Residents From Killer Herdsmen, Resign Now" | Sahara Reporters
The group expressed outrage over the recent attacks, and highlighted previous assaults on Isi-Uzu and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas.
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) Enugu State Chapter has demanded the immediate resignation of Governor Peter Mbah, over what it described as the government's complicity in enabling killer herdsmen attacks across the state.
The group made the demand in a statement on Tuesday in reaction to recent invasion of Eha-Amufu bordering communities with Benue State by the herdsmen, slaughtering several people including children with others missing.
Signed by its Chairman, Mazi David Ani, the group expressed outrage over the recent attacks, and highlighted previous assaults on Isi-Uzu and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas.
"The primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. However, the OYC asserts that Governor Mbah's administration has failed to ensure the safety of Enugu State citizens," Ani said.
"Given this failure, the OYC believes that resignation is the most honourable course of action for the governor."
The OYC has also called on the people of Enugu State to defend themselves, citing the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) advice and international law.
The council said it plans to lead a self-defence programme and mobilise protests demanding Governor Mbah's resignation if the insecurity persists.
The OYC said, "The situation in Enugu State remains volatile, with communities living in fear of Fulani herdsmen attacks. The OYC's demand for Governor Mbah's resignation underscores the growing frustration and desperation among citizens. As the state teeters on the brink of chaos, stakeholders are urging immediate action to address the security crisis.
"The people of Enugu State deserve a government that prioritizes their safety and well-being. The OYC's call for Governor Mbah's resignation serves as a wake-up call for the state government to reassess its response to the security challenges. The international community watches as Nigeria's internal conflicts escalate, highlighting the need for effective governance and citizen protection.
"In conclusion, the OYC's demand for Governor Mbah's resignation is a testament to the deep-seated concerns of the people of Enugu State. The state government must take immediate action to address the security crisis and ensure the safety of its citizens. Failure to do so may lead to further unrest and instability in the region."
