Ohanaeze calls for review of defence ministry's approach to insecurity
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has expressed concerns about the current security situation in Nigeria, while urging President Bola Tinubu to review the Defence Ministry’s approach.
The group stated that a fresh perspective and new strategies could help address the challenges facing the nation.
The Ohanaeze youths noted that recent remarks by Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, explaining the challenges of fighting guerilla warfare, have raised concerns about the Ministry’s ability to effectively tackle insecurity.
While acknowledging the Minister’s efforts to provide context, they emphasised the need for hope and reassurance for Nigerians affected by the insecurity.
The group also urged lawmakers, including Ahmadu Jaha, to be mindful of their words and actions, ensuring they boost the morale of troops and promote national unity.
The Ohanaeze youths noted that issues of security should be approached with seriousness and urgency, rather than being politicised.
“We urge Mr President to take decisive action by sacking him and allowing more competent people to handle the very important state function.
“These kinds of things coming from so-called leaders is so shameful and unacceptable; rather than find a way of boost morale of out troops, he ends us denigrating them.
“We urge him to learn to apply caution in his public speeches and conducts,” Okwu declared.
