Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd), state governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers and other dignitaries are set to gather in Abuja on May 13 for the public presentation of Being True to Myself, the autobiography of former governor of Jigawa State and ex-minister of foreign affairs Sule Lamido.

The high-profile book launch will take place at the NAF Conference Centre and is expected to serve as a major convergence of Nigeria’s political and intellectual elite, reflecting on decades of the country’s political evolution and Lamido’s pivotal role in it.

Addressing the media in Abuja, the chairman of the book launch committee, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, described the autobiography as a “nuanced exploration of Nigeria’s complex political history,” spanning the last days of the Second Republic, military rule, political transitions and the Fourth Republic.

“Lamido’s story is one that mirrors Nigeria’s turbulent but hopeful political journey. Being True to Myself is more than a personal narrative; it’s a political memoir that traces the ideals, struggles, and decisions that have shaped both the man and the nation,” Khabeeb said.

Obasanjo, who appointed Lamido as foreign affairs minister in 1999, has written the foreword to the book and will serve as the special guest of honour at the launch.

Abdulsalami Abubakar will chair the occasion, while former Senate president Iyorchia Ayu is scheduled to review the book.

The event is also expected to draw participation from key figures across Nigeria’s political spectrum, including serving governors, legislators, traditional rulers, diplomats, business leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to which Lamido belongs.
