Published 1 week ago3 minute read

The former management of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) led by Adebayo Somefun has been commended for integrating Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) Compliance Certificates into national contract bidding procedures.

In an affirmation of integrity, transparency and transformative leadership, NSITF noted the contributions of Somefun and his team to the repositioning of the Fund.

In a letter dated April 2025, signed by the current NSITF Managing Director, Oluwaseun Faleye, the body said the incorporation of ECS compliance certificates into national contract bidding procedures significantly increased compliance and contributions.

The letter read in part: “Strategic collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), leading to the integration of ECS Compliance Certificates into national contract bidding procedures significantly increasing compliance and contributions.”

The letter of commendation recognised Somefun’s dedication, innovation, and outstanding stewardship in repositioning the Fund.

The letter lauded growth in revenue generation during Somefun’s tenure, saying there was a substantial improvement in contributions to fulfil the Fund’s statutory obligations.

It also recognised the prioritisation of staff welfare via the resolution of longstanding promotion issues and clearance of salary arrears to boost staff morale.

Successful reclamation of NSITF properties nationwide by the former management was recognised.

The letter noted that staff motivation and commitment under Somefun’s leadership reached commendable levels, resulting in minimal attrition and increased productivity.

“Your commitment to excellence and teamwork was inspiring, and your contributions are truly valued. On behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Labour and Employment and the NSITF Board, please accept our sincerest appreciation,” the letter stated.

Somefun expressed deep gratitude to the President and all who stood by his team during their stay in office.

He noted that the letter of commendation marks a significant chapter of justice, restoration, and honour for a public servant whose legacy continues to inspire the present workforce.

Meanwhile, the managing director of the Fund, Oluwaseun Faleye has initiated a series of actions and programmes aimed at achieving his goal for a better social welfare service delivery in Nigeria.

One such initiative is the motivation and upskilling of the Fund’s workforce through improved welfare package, training and retraining.

Faleye believes that well-motivated staff is essential to the success of the organization.

Faleye and his team are strengthening stakeholders’ engagement by bringing stakeholders representing employers, labour and government together at many fora organized by the Fund to promote synergy and transparency and better acquaint stakeholders with the operations and mandate of the Fund.

Expansion of the Employee Compensation Scheme is a key policy of Faleye.

Aware of the fact that the informal sector of the economy constitutes an estimated 85 per cent of the active workforce, he is pushing the expansion of the Scheme to cover workers in the sector.

The Fund under Faleye has streamlined its claims and compensation processes to ensure claims are settled without undue delays which has resulted in settlement of 22,350 claims in 2024.
