NSA Scandal: I was not arrested by NIB, only invited for questioning - Yaw Danso
NSA Accountant, Yaw Danso
Yaw Danso, the Head of Accounts at the National Service Authority (NSA), has vehemently denied ever being arrested by the National Investigation Bureau in connection with the ghost names payroll scandal that has rocked the institution.
3news.com had reported that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had detained Yaw Danso over the scandal.
His purported arrest follows that of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the former Deputy Director of Operations at NSA, who was taken into custody on February 22, 2025. Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of NSA, also remains on the run as authorities intensify their search for suspects linked to the fraudulent payroll scheme.
The ghost names scandal has resulted in significant financial losses for the state, with several high-ranking officials now under investigation.
However, speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Monday night monitored by GhanaWeb, Yaw Danso stated that he was merely invited to assist with the investigation and was not detained, as had been reported.
"I wasn't arrested as indicated by your media. I wasn't put into custody. I was just invited for questioning. Your reportage is denting my image. It is all over the country that I have been arrested and put into custody. NIB did not do that. They invited me and questioned me."
He clarified that he was not a staff member of the National Service Authority when the alleged illegal act of inserting ghost names was committed.
Yaw Danso explained that he took charge as an accountant barely three months ago, in December 2024.
"I wasn't there when the illegal names were allegedly inserted. My first payment on the system was just last week. That is when I got to know how the system works."
