NPP MP Advocates Ban on Public Flagbearer Endorsements | News Ghana
“The leadership… must ban all this public endorsements and punish those who blatantly disregard the directives,” Nyarko wrote, attributing the position to his online statement. “This public show… breeds apathy, tension and further deepens divisions.”
Nyarko aligned with internal calls for restraint, noting past endorsements damaged party unity: “We cannot do the same wrong things… and expect different results,” he stated, sourcing the caution to his post. His intervention comes amid visible friction between supporters of declared contenders Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the January 31, 2025 flagbearer election.
The Bawumia campaign claims substantial stakeholder backing, while Agyapong’s team challenges those assertions according to public statements from both factions. Nyarko contends banning endorsements would reduce pre-election discord.
Ghana’s major political parties have historically experienced internal divisions during competitive flagbearer contests, with reconciliation processes typically commencing after candidate selection.
