Fans of 1995's A Goofy Movie rejoice! No, we're sadly not getting a Powerline EP–but we do have a never-before-seen documentary about the beloved film.
In celebration of the movie's 30th anniversary, the documentary entitled Not Just a Goof, debuting today on Disney+, tells the untold story of the creative team and their up and down journey tackling their first Disney feature.
A synopsis of the documentary provided by Disney states, "Through key interviews and rare archival footage, it explores the struggles, victories, and studio dynamics that shaped the movie. More than just a behind-the-scenes look, it highlights why “A Goofy Movie” remains a beloved gem for the generation that grew up watching it. This captivating retrospective sheds light on Disney Animation’s evolution and the film’s enduring legacy, making it a must-watch for Disney fans and 90s kids alike.

Not Just a Goof is rated TV-PG. It's directed by Christopher Ninness and Eric Kimelton, who co-wrote the story with Mason Trueblood. The documentary is also produced by Scott Seibold and executive-produced by Don Hahn.
Though A Goofy Movie didn't really find its audience until after its VHS release (how I initially saw it), the impact it continues to have on Millennials in particular is pretty strong.
Those who grew up relating to the character of Max and his plight to impress his high school crush, despite his embarrassing dad, might revisit the film today and relate a whole lot more to Goofy's aim. Regardless, a film that satisfies across generations deserves "classic" status. For that reason, this documentary can be a great opportunity to not only get your nostalgia fill, but also discover a new side of the story along with your kids.
I introduced A Goofy Movie to my oldest son about five years ago, and it was cool to compare his reactions with some of my own when I saw the movie for the first time. Watching this doc together should give us both a new shared experience with something I grew up with.
