MP for North Tongu and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has taken steps to transform the education landscape by donating 36 brand-new laptops to teachers serving in remote communities in his constituency.
This initiative reflects the legislator's appreciation of the hard work of persons who are committed to teaching in deprived areas.
According to a report from citinewsroom.com, on May 21, 2025, this gesture is part of Ablakwa's mission to uplift students and teachers.
In 2019, he donated 60 laptops, valued at over GH¢100,000, to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) teachers across five Senior High Schools and 55 public Junior High Schools in North Tongu.
The minister indicated that he remains poised to support them with resources to help boost academic achievement among students.
“This is part of our broader effort to support our teachers who accept postings to remote areas. It’s important that they feel valued and equipped to perform their duties effectively,” he declared during the presentation ceremony.
Demonstrating his commitment to fostering academic excellence, Ablakwa awarded full scholarships to 25 top-performing WASSCE students in the constituency to cover their entire tertiary education.
He has also committed to rewarding winners of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) from his alma mater, Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC), with various incentives.
"These policies are aimed at retaining teachers, boosting their morale, and ultimately improving education quality in North Tongu," he added.
Ablakwa indicated that his vision extends beyond the donations.
He disclosed his plan to implement additional teacher-friendly policies, including award schemes, continuous professional development opportunities, and scholarships to motivate educators.
Ablakwa stated that his ultimate goal is to enhance education in North Tongu.
Empowering rural education
The donation of these laptops, valued at thousands of cedis, is pivotal to bridging the digital divide and transforming teaching and learning experiences in rural schools.
According to him, access to modern technology means leveling the playing field and offering disadvantaged students opportunities to thrive.
A step towards digital inclusion
The enthusiasm surrounding this generous donation is because most educators in the rural areas grapple with limited resources.
The laptops will empower teachers to create engaging lesson plans and offer rich learning experiences to their students.
Ablakwa’s vision for education
This initiative embodies Ablakwa’s broader vision for a more inclusive and technologically advanced education system.
By equipping rural teachers with modern tools, he aspires to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s next generation, setting a transformative course for the future.
Both teachers and students have expressed their gratitude to the MP for his generosity, noting the profound impact it will have on their academic journeys.
