Nora Fatehi speaks out about earnings from her music.

Nora Fatehi, the actor-dancer renowned for her captivating dance numbers, has recently opened up about a long-standing issue in the music industry: the lack of compensation for artists whose work significantly contributes to the success of music labels and producers. Fatehi, who gained immense popularity and the moniker of the ‘Garmi’ girl through her mesmerizing performances, has voiced her concerns about the financial disparities she experienced early in her career.

In a candid interview with BBC Asian Network, Nora Fatehi discussed her journey of understanding the business aspect of her craft. She revealed that despite her dance numbers becoming internet sensations, driving film success, and influencing box-office numbers, she wasn't benefiting financially from the revenue streams generated. These included YouTube revenues, streaming rights, and the increased earnings of films due to the hype created by her successful songs. Fatehi acknowledged that her primary income came from shows and events, lacking ownership of intellectual property rights and publishing royalties.

Fatehi emphasized the importance of sustainability and security for artists. She expressed her desire to create generational wealth through publishing rights and royalties, envisioning a future where her contributions would provide financial security for her children. She stated, "What is the point of being the Dilbar girl for my kids if I don’t have revenue to show from the tag. Generational wealth is important, and that is something I want to focus on.”

Nora Fatehi has made a significant impact on the entertainment industry with her exceptional dance skills. Her notable performances include songs like Ek Toh Kum Zindagani, Dilbar, and O Saki Saki. In 2024, she showcased her acting talent in films such as Crakk, Madgaon Express, and Matka. Looking ahead, Fatehi is set to star in several upcoming projects, including the Hindi film Be Happy, the Tamil film Kanchana 4, and the Kannada film KD - The Devil. The trailer for Be Happy, scheduled for release on Prime Video on March 14, was recently unveiled, featuring Abhishek Bachchan seeking dance lessons from Nora to bring joy to his daughter. Additionally, she collaborated with singer Jason Derulo in his song, Snake.
