'No Turning Back' by Gaise Baba becomes Nigeria's top gospel song
Nigerian gospel singer, Gaise Baba has made music history with his hit gospel single ‘No Turning Back II’ featuring Lawrence Oyor, which is now the highest-charting gospel song in Nigeria’s five-year TurnTable Chart history.
The song rose to number 4 on the TurnTable Top 100, chart that tracks music performance across streaming, radio and TV platforms.
The record-breaking moment happened in May 2025, marking a major win for gospel artistes in Nigeria’s mainstream music space, which is often dominated by pop and Afrobeats stars.
According to TurnTable Chart data, ‘No Turning Back II’ has gained massive popularity, especially on TikTok, where it has become a viral anthem among young Nigerians.
The track, which reimagines the old hymn “I have decided to follow Jesus”, blends powerful spiritual lyrics with upbeat sounds that have helped it cross into secular spaces.
Lawrence Oyor, who was also behind the viral gospel hit ‘Favour’ earlier this year, teamed up with Gaise Baba to push gospel music back into national conversation.
Recent reports show a dramatic increase in gospel consumption. Between 2022 and 2024, gospel music streams by Nigerian Gen Z users on Spotify rose by over 1200%.
Christian podcast streams also jumped by 482% within the same period.
Earlier this year, Sumsisola Agbebi became the first gospel act in Nigeria to hit 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, while Mercy Chinwo and Moses Bliss topped YouTube’s most streamed gospel artistes for Q1 2025.
