Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians that the government has not received any formal communication from the United States regarding reports that Ghana may be added to a new U.S. travel ban list.

His comments come in response to a statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump on June 14, 2025, indicating that his administration is considering restricting entry to citizens from 36 additional countries, including Ghana.

According to The Washington Post, a memo from the U.S. State Department, which was reportedly reviewed by the outlet, suggests the move is being considered as part of a broader immigration enforcement strategy.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on June 19, Mr. Ablakwa emphasised that there is currently as Ghana has not received any official notification from U.S. authorities.

“Ghana has not been officially notified that we are going to be placed on any prohibition list or on any ban where our citizens cannot travel to the U.S.,” he stated.

The Minister also disclosed that the Foreign Affairs Ministry has engaged relevant U.S. officials for clarification.

“I have asked that we be assured that those leaks do not carry merit. So far, I can tell the people of Ghana that there is no cause for alarm,” he assured.

Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and mobility of Ghanaian citizens while closely monitoring developments surrounding the reported policy shift.
